The students studied labels from food products and identified the composition of foodstuff: water, lipids, carbohydrates, colourings...Then they were given an additional text explaining the intake of some ingredients: organic matter, its benefit for health and the recommendations for a balanced diet.
The students calculated the energy intake of some foodstuffs, then they converted their energetic values either into kilocalories, or in kilojoules.
Aims of the activity:
- realize the influence of our diet on our health condition and energy, perceive the importance of eating a balanced diet and having a proper breakfast.
-mathematical learning goals: mental arithmetic, understanding instructions, ability to convert between two new units.
