Target group: 1º ESO (12-13 years old)
Dates: march / april 2016
• To involve the youngest students and to make them of the existence of different cultures and languages around the world.
• To teach students to work in groups, learning how important it is to be a part of a group.
• Improve the knowledge of European linguistic culture in the pupils.
We worked this issue in ten sessions.
First we explained what we will do and how we will do.
Then, during the next sessions, the students worked looking for some information on different European languages and to create a European linguistic map.
The level of the group chosen was 1º ESO. They are about 12 years old and they are highly motivated and interested in working in groups, both with hands-on and academic work.
We organized groups of 2 or 3 people, each group worked with a different country from the members of the project BODY: Romania, Poland, Italy, France, Portugal and Spain.
After looking for 15 expressions and words in every language of the seven countries, they made seven maps. One for each country. Then they wrote 15 words in small tags and put them on the right map.
More specifically, with Spain, they studied the four official Spanish languages: Castilian, Galician, Catalonian and Basque.
