Mood card

In a mixed ability tutor group, one of the Erasmus project teachers created an activity to baseline test and then try to improve the mood of students. As a school, we have noticed that when students leave their tutor group in a morning in a negative mood, their behaviour and work rate deteriorates as the day progresses and some students are more likely to be given behaviour points.

1) The teacher issued students with a questionnaire and asked them to circle a number between 1 – 10 to rate their mood at the start of the day.

2) They were then played a 5 minute youtube video showing a variety of animals doing funny and cute things

3) They were then asked to reevaluate their mood.

4) To reflect, students were asked to think of otehr ways that might improve people’s moods.

80% of the students stated that they felt in a better mood after wathing the video an all students admitted that the video had made them laugh.

The outcome was a display of student responses.
